Foreground
Conservation & Decorative Arts
Profile
Out of a mutual respect and enthusiasm for the preservation of the craftsperson’s/decorator’s handwork and skill sets, Foreground CDA was formed as a partnership by Dawn D’Aluisio and John Lippert in 2007.
In the studio, the team focuses on fine art conservation and the design and fabrication of decorative motifs for architectural settings. In the field, Foreground CDA specializes in the conservation and restoration of historic decorated rooms, and has done so nationally, working as sole contractor and as lead collaborator in important rooms throughout the Hudson Valley, NYC and beyond. Foreground’s recent projects include the Park Avenue Armory (NYC,) the Vanderbilt Mansion (Hyde Park, NY,) and the Mills Mansion (Staatsburg, NY.).
Foreground is a process focused firm. All projects are approached from the perspective that no two problems are the same. As we develop a project, whether conservation or design, we rely on the breadth of our experience as conservators and artists to inform our unique approach and innovative treatments.
Dawn D’Aluisio received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and has 20 + years of experience in preservation and application of decorative finishes. John Lippert received his BFA from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art and has 20+ years of experience in fine art and decorative paint conservation. Ms. D’Aluisio and Mr. Lippert are members of the American Institute for Conservation and the Association for Preservation Technology.
