Hotchkiss-Fyler House Mural Recreation

Gertrude Fyler Hotchkiss bathroom historical photograph of mural that was removed. The room was re-decorated in the 1950’s.

Foreground was given the task of creating a full color mural with this photograph as inspiration.
We designed the mural with the intention of a faithful recreation from the black and white photo while being inspired from it in order to complete the other three walls.

First step is a basic thumbnail layout sketch to include scale, architectural features and motif.

Studio work
Our previous project in the house was in the adjoining bedroom of this bathroom project. Spending time in the house allowed us the opportunity to understand the decorative intentions all over the house. We were able to take the black and white photograph and artistically interpret a mural that would seemlessly fit into the original space.
